My Stuff
I’ve got stuff in the shed
I’ve got stuff at my Gran’s
I’ve got stuff in my head
I’ve got stuff in my hands
I’ve got stuff that nobody understands
It’s my stuff
I’ve got stuff that nobody understands
Craig Bradley (That Poetry Bloke) has done many jobs in his life – he’s been a stand-up comedian, roadie, heavy metal drummer, window cleaner, humbug boiler, nightclub bouncer, Butlins breakfast cook and gravedigger.
Now he’s a poet and writer who performs in schools, libraries, museums, art galleries, hospitals and festivals. He’s run poetry and story-writing workshops at loads of football clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Everton.
Craig is famous – well, he’s been on telly. And in 2007 he won an Arts Council award for outstanding work with young people. He’s written five books of poetry and football stories.
He says: ‘When I meet young people I start off with a chat – about anything – and have a laugh. I’m a writer, it’s my job, which to a lot of young people seems a bit weird – it does to me sometimes. I’m there to show young people that writing is like any other job.’
What do young people say about Craig?
‘People have said all sorts to me,’ he says, ‘and no doubt behind my back!!’
- ‘He’s funny.’
- ‘He’s cool.’
- ‘He listens.’
- ‘He doesn’t judge.’
- ‘He’s just good at talking to you.’
- ‘He makes you feel clever.’
- ‘It’s good how he can take something that happened to you and turn it into a poem.’
